Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant

Book: The Hate U Give

This thought-provoking book that we hope drives a lot of introspection in our community. It’s about a black teenage girl straddling two worlds – her inner city home life and her predominantly white, wealthy private school life. Her friend is shot and killed by a white police officer in front of her. This book delves into the themes of racism and police brutality, but also healing and grieving as a result of violence.

In conjunction with community partners, the Peoria Public Library has scheduled a number of events – from book discussions to film screenings to poverty simulations and more – in an effort to start soul-searching discussions in our community.
